The FlexTale Encounter Generator is an ambitious Dungeon/GameMaster tool that makes generating infinite dynamic content as simple as rolling dice quickly.

Version 1.0 of the Generator contains the following concepts:

  • Simple Foodstuffs
  • Rations & Prepared Food
  • Writing Supplies
  • Books
  • Clothing
  • Fishing Supplies
  • Textiles
  • Glasses, Metals, and Woods
  • Alcohol
  • General Supplies
  • Coin Treasure
  • Gems: Low-Quality
  • Gems: Medium Quality
  • Gems: High Quality
  • Gems: Jewels
  • Weapons
  • Armor
  • Locks, Chest
  • Locks, Furniture
  • Locks, Door
  • Container, Barrel or Crate
  • Traps
  • Potions, Moderate
  • Wandering Monsters, Surface (separate tables for trivial, light, average, advanced, and elite)
  • Wandering Monsters, Mines (separate tables for trivial, light, average, advanced, and elite)

FlexContent tables such as the dozens that are included in this useful tome support a wide variety of difficulty levels, with PCs of any level.  Furthermore, the results are usable in practically any fantasy RPG game: Pathfinder, Fifth Edition/5E, Swords & Wizardry... so long as the monster referenced is part of your game, this tool is fully usable as-is.

Innovation

This product incorporates several innovative and creative tools your gaming group can use to use the content for a party of any size, and any level.  These approaches also enable a great deal of flexibility in portraying richly-detailed NPCs, and tracking interactions with them.

Infinium Game Studio has released several free booklets as rules accessories to help GMs understand (or to help prospective buyers experience) these tools:

Thanks for pointing this out, and for the additional tickler below... I had indeed received some feedback that it this table was missing, but when I checked the output file I have on my personal machine, it appeared to be there. Given your comment, I grabbed the version that had been published on DTRPG, and lo and behold, you're absolutely correct: the table is just flat-out missing.

Still not exactly sure XXX happened, but I just regenerated, re-validated, re-uploaded, and re-published the CORRECT files, and even tweaked a few minor errata here and there to boot.

Thanks again for reaching out and I hope you enjoy the new and improved and complete version!

Looks great now! I was hoping it would be an easy fix. Thanks for sorting this out.

Now looking at the food tables has made me hungry... :)

What kinds of content does this book cover within it's pages? I get the general idea, and I'm intrigued by the concept, but I'm curious as to it's total scope. Is there a primary focus, or is it truly an attempt to create a general-purpose dynamic generator for all Fantasy RPG situations? For example, does it include content for spells, weather, descriptive flavor, quests, plot twists, NPC personality/appearance, unique magic items, city size, etc?

As mentioned a couple of times (here and elsewhere) the "Rations & Prepared Food" table is not present. The page is there, but there's a space where the table should be. It would be nice to have this issue acknowledged, please, even if nothing's actually going to be done about it.

Yes. All of that, actually. In version 2.0.

For this version 1.0, you get a variety of several dozen of those concepts, but it isn't quite there to what you've described just yet. Stay tuned! :)

Howdy! I just received your "Goodbye 2020 MASSIVE SALE!" email, and it lists 50% off for this item, but I don't see it reflected here in the DriveThruRPG store. I noticed that some of the other percentages in the email seemed off as well. I'm still buying some things, and I might be buying more if the prices are actually better than reflected here. Thanks a bunch!

Hi John! Thanks for the interest... to clarify, the % off in the email and on Facebook reflect the % off full price. I've been discounting much of our products to some extent throughout the year already, initially in celebration of 5 years of being an indie company and then of course in commiseration of quarantine.

I did drop prices on the majority of everything, but unfortunately, the prices are now as low as I can make them, at least for now. Any lower and they'd be at, or under, what folks pledged in crowdfunding originally years ago to support us starting up :)

Thanks for your interest and I hope you enjoy whatever you do end up purchasing! Happy new year!

@Kevin: OMG, I'm in idiot. When this was first published, the POD was active; I had a revision, which required a re-order of the proof, and I hadn't noticed that RPGnow deactivates the hardcover version once you do that. Thanks so much for the heads-up! I've switched it back on now; should be good to go.

And with all of my books, you automatically get the PDF/electronic edition free with the hardcopy. Hope that helps!

I'm reading through the free preview items right now and I think that the FlexTale approach is exactly what I've been looking for. I'm interested but I'm unclear what specifically is included in the paid version that's not included in the free preview items. Also, do you ship to Canada?

Cory--Sorry it took me forever to get back to you! Sample contains just a table or two; the full version contains dozens. If you get Dark Obelisk 2, FTEG PDF is included free because it's absolutely essential to run the adventure.

And OBS/RPGnow/DriveThruRPG ships worldwide.

Hope that helps!

Regards,
Jason

Thanks Jason.

I ended up pledging both Aquilae:Expanded Bestiary of the Realm (Pathfinder/5E/OSRIC) and Villainous Compendium: Villains & Henchmen for Pathfinder/5E on Kickstarter. I think the former is supposed to provide access to the FTEG. Is that correct? If so, how do I access it? Actually, I left you a comment in the Expanded Beastiary Kickstarter page with the same question.

Cory

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
