Teens with Attitude – Quickstart

Suggested Price $5.00

It’s 1993, and you & your friends are just, like, a bunch of regular teens, you know? Or at least you were, until things got hella weird. Aliens? Magical powers? Saving the world!? As if. You’re just trying to, like, make it through high school! Can you get over all your drama and work together to take down the bad guys, or are you headed for a mondo gnarly time?

Teens with Attitude is a tabletop roleplaying game that lets 4-7 players create collaborative stories about a team of superpowered 90s teens. Think Animorphs, Power Rangers, or Captain Planet. You’ll fight sinister villains, wield bodacious powers, and deal with all the melodrama of high school. The game has everything you need to create the raddest 90s action show that never was.

Teens with Attitude is based on the Powered by the Apocalypse system. Simple rules, quick character & team creation, and a structured episode system get you right to all the action & drama. The game uses a resource called ATTITUDE to drive the story. Teens build it up as they experience complications in their lives, then spend it to do totally awesome stuff.

This free Quickstart Edition includes:

  • A 6-page quickstart guide that walks you through your first session of the game.
  • 3 Team Playbooks to create a themed squad of heroes & their secret powers.
  • 6 Teen Playbooks to build a cast of archetypical 90s teenagers.
  • A Producer Playbook with everything you need to run the game as the GM.
You can also jump right into the game with some Pre-Gen Playbooks, and play your game digitally with Fillable PDF Playbooks.

Note that this version is the public beta of Teens with Attitude. The game is currently in development and will be regularly updated.

I've been looking to run a Power Rangers-themed campaign for the longest time, but surprisingly it was the Captain Planet-inspired "Elementeers" that became the most popular among my groups, lol. Anyway, the system is fun and if you've played Masks or MonsterHearts, you won't have much trouble adapting. I admit I'm still trying to perfect running it, but overall it's a totally rad 90's experience ^ ^

It'd be awesome to be able to see some expansions that'd allow for some characters like Axe from Animorphs or the Alien Rangers (maybe the outsider playbook?) and I'm still trying to play with some more exotic concepts for my friends who were fans of Power Rangers in Space, Space Cases and the like. Although besides that my friends said they'd love for me to run again.

Glad you & your group are digging it! An alien playbook is on the list for future development, specifically to allow characters like Ax. I'll also think about playsets & team playbooks that allow for more far-ranging adventures. Thanks for the feedback!

This is a great system! I have been wanting to run a magical girl campaign for a loooong time but have never found a system I liked or would work without hacking it to bits. Now I have found it! For now I am going to write my own Magical Girl Team playbook with a more modern setting in mind, but it would be awesome to see an official 90's totally-not-sailor-moon-with-the-serial-numbers-filed-off Magical Girl Team playbook in the future. Thanks!

Thanks! I've specifically thought about adding a magical girl team playbook at some point, but I'm not familiar enough with the genre to make one myself. (Like you say, Sailor Moon would be the 90s touchstone there.) Would love to see what you come up with!

I'm liking what I'm seeing! What content besides the one in the Quickstart can we expect to see in the full game, generally speaking?

Hey, sorry for the delay on this – I wasn't checking comments for a bit! The full game book will have a more comprehensive rules explanation, deeper advice on how to play as a Teen or run the game as the Producer, additional teen & team playbooks for different, a 90s American pop culture guide, sample scenarios, and info about customizing the game & creating your own content. I'm hoping to get content from guest contributors & artists as well, but it depends on interest level

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
