Dungeon Smashers is a chibi fantasy retro clone role-playing game based on the advanced version of the role-playing game that helped so many of us to fall in love with role-playing games.  Dungeon Smashers is completely compatible with this game but it is an epic version of the game so the characters have more powers and abilities.  This game is filled with full color chibi illustrations that include 8 classic character classes (Cleric, Druid, Fighter, Monk, Paladin, Ranger, Thief, and Wizard) and 112 fully illustrated monsters.  The game includes a rogue like system that allows a dungeon master to instantly generate a dungeon with a deck of cards and it is perfect for solo game play.  Monsters can be modified with powers allowing them to represent more powerful versions of the monster or a boss version.

Noticed that none of the Playing Card charts in my PDF have entries for the 3 or 2 of clubs or hearts. Given that these charts can have a nothing-happens entry, I assume this is a mistake. I'm also not sure about the objectively stronger broadsword costing less than the longsword, but that might just be a simulationist choice: 5 gp is small beans, anyways.

Since this system doesn't match 1 to 1 with other retroclones in places like monsters having hit dice or an actual table for NPC reaction rolls like the Charisma bonus is supposed to help, I'd definitely pay for a book that provides more support for this system or gives advice for translating other retro products.

I got a queiston about magic
When I have a spell that I can take on level 2 when range is told 3'/level that means when I pick up the spell it's range is 6' at level 2 of the caster?

Okay, I really like this game. The art style is adorable (and my 7 yo thinks it's amazing...I smell gateway rpg!). It's OSR (which I love) but with some really interesting changes/additions to the base classes, making them gain some abilities as they reach higher level, which is always fun. The monsters are great.

However, there are a few rules changes that give me pause and make me wonder what is going on or if I am missing something.
1) No 'To-Hit' modifiers. So as far as I can tell, only the Fighter ever gains any bonuses to hit (that aren't from magic weapons). At most, they gain +3 at level 17 or something. Which means, a high level fighter with max strength (+3) and max gear, (+6) has a max of +12 against another fighter with max level shield and armor (AC 29) can only hit on a 17+. Other classes can only hit on a 20, even the 'partial fighters' like rangers, paladins, and monks. This seems frustrating. Also monsters get a very small (and weirdly eclectic) bonus to hit (they don't have...See more

Looks like the only ways to receive a bonus to hit, would be Strength or Dexterity bonuses, magical items and some class abilities. The attribute bonuses are small, similar to OSR, so JEN Games probably wants to keep all bonus fairly flat, so there are no combat monsters. IMHO

How do HP go up? As per the chart for the character type? (Fighter 1st level 10HP and at 2nd level has 20HP plus any bonuses?)

Just a few questions (as this game deviates from normal OSR):
- Classes have set ACs, dependent on level. But unless restricted, they may add armor (equipment) bonus to this?
- Was it intended that Saves and Ability rolls were 'roll-low', but Attacks were 'roll-high'?
- When a spell refers to "level", is that the character's level, or the spell level? E.g. Magic Missile fires 1 missile for each level. So a 5th-level Wizard casting a 1st-level magic missile would cast 5 missiles? Does the mana cost remain the same?

Pretty sure level reference is to character level, because otherwise it makes no sense. Magic Missile is always a first level spell, so there is no need to make the damage calculation based on the spells level.

Does the Red Dragon’s b-i-t-e attack (3d12) really do more damage than its Breath Weapon (3d10)?

Interesting; the dragon must have one mean XXX. On the other hand, the breath weapon doesn't need to be that high, as it would be an area attack, dousing all the would be heroes at once.

OK, I bought this, gave it a once-over, and my conclusion is: this has genuinely surprised me with how solid it is.
Like it's super good.
It takes an AD&D (I think?) framework and hacks it to fit the source material. It achieves its goals well, I think.

3 bux for the 100-page PDF is way too cheap.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
