Myth & Magic Player's Guide

Welcome to Myth & Magic!

Myth & Magic is an update and expansion to the 2nd Edition of the World’s Most Popular Roleplaying Game. It maintains the tone and atmosphere for classic storytelling, yet cleans up and modernizes some of the rules with new and improved mechanics.  We here at NHG started our gaming careers in the 1989 rules. We have tremendous love for that edition and that love is evident in the quality of the Myth & Magic experience. For anyone who has played 2E and enjoyed the countless avenues a good story and some good friends can take in a campaign, you will love Myth & Magic. For anyone who missed the 2E experience, Myth & Magic is a must-play. The 2E experience is unique and Myth & Magic does a great job of preserving that experience while providing a fresh set of rules.

The Player's Guide contains all the rules necessary to play the game through twentyy levels and beyond. Not only do we have all the standard races and classes, the monk class and half-orc race have been updated from prior editions (or retrograded from newer editions) to fit the rules system. Check out the preview of the Player's Guide to see the scope of the game.

After you download the Player's Guide, grab a copy of the free Game Master's Starter Guide, which will provide a lot of material to challenge your players in the early levels. The full GMG will arrive soon.

Download the Player's Guide now and hop over to newhavengames.com to share your experiences and gain access to exclusive member content. We have a very, very enthusiastic and large gaming community that can't wait to get gaming.

Upon further review of the Art Free GMG, it is almost fully OGL. The only text that is PI is the Base20 system. Well, that perfectly matches with the 5e SRD DC system. If anyone want to go thru the trouble of extacting the GMG text, making the necessary modification, reformatting it then posting it as an OGL document let me know!

For those of you who have this, a great combo is the 1e DMG and 2e Monstrous Manual. Wandering monster tables can be found in the 2e Monstrous Compendium Annual Vol. 2. There is a art-free GMG floating around out there somewhere, but the three (four) previously mentioned books fulfill the needs quite well.

Like others: I think the content is fairly good, but the Kickstarter (which I backed both the Players and DMs guide), did not deliver as promised. To still see this online and the owner making money from the crowd funded efforts is frustrating to see the least. It would have been quite different if he was verbose and transparent with his issues.

The trouble with the Kickstarter was very unfortunate. The game itself is very good. My group is using it right now for a campaign and we're liking it quite a bit. You can see how we're using it at this address: https://www.lakewayareagaming.com/category/events/riverlands-campaign/. I recommend the game highly.

Hi! I've read your actual gameplay and I did enjoy it much but after a while you have stopped and move on to castles and crusades. What happened? I don't know any other means to contact you. I did find a hard copy and I'm thinking of investing to the system and I would love to hear any second opinions!

Hey, Konstantinos. If you will go make an account on my site https://www.lakewayareagaming.com I'll happily explain how the game runs and why we made a change. I'd give you my email address but I'm iffy about posting it here on a public forum. Sorry I didn't see this until just recently.

It makes me sad that this awesome game is being dismissed due to the horrendous management of the two Kickstarters. It was a shame what was done, but it doesn't lessen how amazing a game was produced.

This is a product that was launched on kickstarter (just google "kickstarter myth and magic") but was never fulfilled. The originals backers are still waiting for their items, and the author has retreated into total radio silence for a year now, while he continues to sell the books to other customers.

Buyer beware, the author is a thief.

Ever hopeful of the redemptive potential in others, I tend to apply Hanlon's razor most to Kickfiascos. That said:

Me wonders if sales of this item are an attempt to raise the funds necessary to print hard copies promised to backers.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
