After four years of no issues, drivethruRPG suddenly decided that the POD files for this were no longer serviceable so removed the POD option on us.

I’m going to have to dig up some backups on it and re-do the indesign file to get a PDF together because I haven’t to look at them in a long while. Then go through the uploading and proofing process again.

So, short answer is yes, I plan to get it set back up again, but I can’t give a timeframe on when that’ll be just yet.

Will I need Worlds in Peril if I’m getting Galaxies in Peril?

No. They’re both standalone games that use different rules as their base. Worlds in Peril uses the Powered by the Apocalypse system; Galaxies in Peril uses the Forged in the Dark ruleset.

It's in their FAQ, it refers to the print quality, not the paper.

I was wondering, as a print version has only just become available, is there any chance of a discount for those of us who paid for the pdf when that was the only option? Having to pruchase it again at full price is a tad much.

If you email me at samjokopublishing at gmail dot com I'll see about getting you a special discount. The margins are already super low on POD so it won't be a ton, though.

I know Indie Press Revolution has some copies left, as well as some retail outlets. OBS doesn't support graphic novel size unfortunately, so I can't even really consider a POD version through them as the entire book would have to be redesigned.

Do you mean a hardcover print edition through DrivethruRPG? The issue with Drivethru is that they don't support graphic novel size, which is what Worlds in Peril is. There are still copies available at Indie Press Revolution, along with some retail outlets that get their stock from IPR as well.

There is going to be a bunch of copies from the kickstarter left over that I'll be selling once I get all the backers their copies. It's only hardcover though, so I might think about setting up a softcover POD in the future. It won't be for a little bit though as I've got to handle kickstarter fulfillment first!

I'll get something set-up for that soon. I'm sure I could make a site to take some pre-orders to be fulfilled right after the kickstarter backers easily enough.

Are you going to be doing print on demand? Is there any way we can get some soft covers to purchase? Have you finished your Kickstarter fulfillment?

Thank you!

We've finished kickstarter fulfillment and have been selling the hardcovers through our site. We don't have any plans to do a softcover POD version, but after we run out of hardcover copies we might consider it. I'm more inclined to do traditional print runs than POD - full color premium softcovers will only be marginally cheaper, if at all, than the hardcovers we're offering already anyway I think (though I'd have to look into it more to get the exact costs) so I'm not sure if there's really any benefit on either side of the transaction to set it up.

Hi Kyle, I would think there would be a significant price difference now you are in the US. The handy thing about POD is the printers are around the world reducing the shipping cost significantly.

A Drivethru copy would be potentially much cheaper, as shipping to the UK for instance is only around $6, vs the $50 shipping to the UK cost of your hardcover!

That makes sense, yeah. Despite needing to sell copies of the books we've already paid to do a traditional print run I didn't really realize international shipping was quite so crazy so I took a look at setting up something through Drivethru. The issue is that Worlds in Peril is graphic novel size (6.61 x 10.25") and Drivethru doesn't support that format. We'd have to remake the entire book just for POD printing and that's just not feasible right now unfortunately. We're always looking at cheaper ways to ship internationally though and we're looking at some options so hopefully we'll have better ways to get stuff out of the states soon.

Any idea on what "damaged" means? Are we talking about covers falling off and binding falling out, or just bent corners and some minor wear and tear?

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
