IMPULSE GAME #1: Stock Car Saturday Night

ADD TO WISHLIST >

This first MicroTactix Impulse Print-'n'-Play game by Origins Award nominated designer Greg Poehlein brings stock car racing action to your tabletop! This unique racing board game offers cool components in a slick and compact board game design that captures the fast-action feel and strategy of small-town stock car racing in an exciting new way!

The game abandons the traditional oval-track-on-a-board approach in favor of a mechanic that emphasizes strategy and maneuver relative to the other cars on the track. Strategy cards held by the drivers put race tactics and skillful play in control of the result instead of just rolls of the dice.

Any good ol' boy can put the hammer down, but maneuvering through the pack, watching your tire wear and fuel consumption and knowing the limits of your machine are tricks only the best drivers can hope to master. When Stock Car Saturday Night is over, will you be up on Victory Lane making a hot date with the Performance Princess, or down in the garage gettin' greasy under a broken stock car?

The game includes printable PDF files for full-color counters, a two-section mapboard, turn and lap markers, and 160 strategy cards as well as a simple three-page rulesheet. Also included is a unique cardstock construct in the MicroTactix tradition -- a paperback-sized full-color slipcase storage box you print and assemble to hold all the game components, allowing you to display and transport your game after it is printed.

I think with some more advanced rules/features this could be a fun game. The title does give you a heads up though. It is an impulse or filler game while waiting for the rest of the gaming group to arrive. [...]

This is a good little game (and the idea of a fold-up box included was a very good idea) with a fair bit of strategy to it. There is one caveat however - the rules for pit stops are not defined in relation to what benefit they give you (does it remove [...]

The Stock Car racing game is a fast, simple game, both to play, but to assemble. It comes with its own box, which is handy, and requires very little time to learn or to print and assemble. Looking forward to more from this line, and from Microtactix in [...]

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
