Swords & Wizardry Continual Light

ADD TO WISHLIST >

You remember, don't you? The sounds of battle heard through the clatter of dice? The shuffling of character sheets? The war stories shared with fellow campaigners?

There is a longing in the soul of every adventurer and though it sometimes fades to a whisper, you still hear it. Swords & Wizardry Continual Light marks your return to fantasy roleplaying - or if you're curious what fantasy gaming is all about, this is the perfect introduction.

This book, a twenty-sided die, and a few six-sided dice are all you need to return to the table, recall those halcyon days of heroism, and forge brand new legends! Welcome back!

What is Swords & Wizardry Continual Light? It is a streamlined version of the Swords & Wizardry rules many of you already love. You will recognixe some White Box and some Complete, but its all Swords & Wizardry.

It covers four core classes (and a bunch of optional ones), four races, seven levels of play (and optional rules to keep the game going after seventh level), magic items, spells, monsters and more - all in about 17 pages of rules.

Suiable for introducing new players to old school gaming or reintroducing a lapsed gamer, pefect for pick up games, convention play and yes - even campaigns.

There is already a lively community supporting the Swords & Wizardry Light / Continual Light rules. Join us :)

Is it intentional that Continual Light does not include a Continual Light spell?

Apparently the content is the same as the Dungeon Delving Undying Light Edition (DULE). However, DULE is more organized and is free. I wonder if I was not deceived.

I believe this is the original, and DULE was done by someone else to make a more organized game. However, this one is short and DULE clocks in at 90 or so pages - half of which is DM guide material.

I am confused about movement rates. The monsters have movement rates such as '9' or '12', but the characters have movement rates per round, such as '90ft'. In a single combat turn, how far can a monster or character move?

Nevermind, I suppose it works the same way as Swords & Wizardry, I just didn't see anywhere where it expressly stated how movement worked contained within the rule book.

My only complaints with the rules is the lack of equipment and the optional classes. The small amount of magic items is perfectly fine seeing as whats there provides an easy way to create or import your own, yet the normal adventuring equipment list feels too barren for my taste at only 14 items. The system itself is great, easy to house-rule, simple to run, and easy to customize, but the optional classes as written seem preferable to the normal base 4 classes. The slower leveling doesn't quite balance that fact out I feel. Overall this is fantastic game worth the $2.50 if you like rules light fantasy games. My 2nd favorite version of Swords and Wizardry.

Hi, game looks fun thanks. In the 'Hell Hound' entry my pdf doesn't seem complete...and doesn't explain what the fire breath does?

Via another source as my layout software does no embed fonts. If you go to Tenkar's Tavern you'll be able to buy the POD now.

Conversion of the files for POD here at OBS is taking place and I expect POD to be available here in the next few weeks.

Excellent rules-light rpg since I no longer have the time to read 300+ pages of core rules... But why does the dwarf and the thief have some little differences between SWL and SWCL?

The dwarf no longer have the defensive bonus vs. giants (+4 AC) in SWCL... In SWL, the thief have 1/D6 move silently, etc. and in SWCL he have 1-2/D6?

And I would add dark vision (60') to dwarves and elves or at least night vision to elves...

Besides that, THANK YOU very much for this practical little treasure rpg.

Defensive bonus removal is in error. We'll fix that.

The thief ability change was intentional due to played feedback.

The removal of dark vision and night vision was intentional in SWL. This is a carry over from there. You can houserule is as you will, but BTB enhanced vision types do not exist on SWL / SWCL.

Thank you for the kinds words. We have much planned :)

Swords & Wizardry Light is 4 pages and covers 4 races, 4 classes and 3 levels of play.

Swords & Wizardry Continual Light is 17 pages of rules, 4 races, 4 core classes and a bunch of optional ones, magic items, new monsters, optional rules, conversion notes to use Swords & Wizardry Complete resources and 7 levels of play. Thus, it is a Continuation of SWL.

It also is a reference to the classic D&D spells, "Light" and "Continual Light", implying that the later is an improved version of the former.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
