D100 Dungeon (Book 1)

ADD TO WISHLIST >
Selected Option:

D100 Dungeon (Book 1) is a game in which you will steer an adventurer through underground caves and dungeons, looking for lost treasures and completing dangerous quests. With each game your adventurer will gain wealth, recognition and become stronger and increasingly skilled in their pursuits. All you will need to play D100 Dungeon, is a pencil, eraser, a few dice and your imagination.

Your journey begins when you create an adventurer and start performing the dungeon training missions. Once they have been successfully completed your adventurer will be ready to face some greater challenges and begin questing in an endeavour to gain notoriety and wealth, rivalling that of royalty and who knows one day their greatest exploits might even become stories and songs performed by bards in every tavern throughout the kingdom.

This version of the D100 Dungeon game is known as D100 Dungeon V3; it supersedes the earlier versions known as V1 and V2. You will need version 3 D100 Dungeon in order to use and play any of the books, pdfs and accessories here on DriveThruRPG. Older versions (V1 and V2) will not translate well into this edition.

WHICH PRODUCT IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Below are some details on the PDF and Print on Demand options available to you, which might help you to choose which product is right for you.

The Watermarked PDF is what we refer to as the Digital Edition. The watermark is very small and appears at the very bottom of every page on the left hand side. It will show your account name and an order number; it will not block or cover any of the text inside the book. The pages have a white background.

The Hardcover, Premium Color Book is what we refer to as the Collector’s Edition. It has a collector’s badge on the front cover and a gold spine effect. The pages inside are printed in full colour with a background on premium paper. The book has a glossy hardback cover. Please note: There is not a Collector’s Edition of the Watermarked PDF, and so if you choose the “Watermarked PDF + Hardcover, Premium Color Book” option, the PDF you download does not have the full colour background.

The Hardcover, Standard Color Book is what we refer to as the Hardback Edition. It has a standard badge on the front cover and a blue spine. The pages inside are printed in colour on a white background and on white paper. The book has a glossy hardback cover.

The Softcover, Standard Color Book is what we refer to as the Softback Edition. It has a standard badge on the front cover and a blue spine. The pages inside are printed in colour on a white background and on white paper. The book has a glossy softback cover.

PLEASE BE ADVISED: At times the print on demand books will need to be updated and may be temporarily withdrawn from the product range. This process can take a few months to complete, and will become available as soon as the update is complete. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

Watch a 7 minute video (below) to discover more about the print on demand books and watermarked pfd.

Hello. If I buy the pdfs, am I allowed to send them off to a printer to have them coil-bound so they lay flat, or is this against some regulation?

Howdy there, I just have a rules question regarding the monster reaction results and can’t find an answer anywhere on the net.
Under the 1 and 2 results it says “Monster has less than 1/2 it’s HP gains AV+5/+10.”
The written section says that if the monster did not try to escape then it makes an attack. It does not specify that it makes an attack with the added AV for just this round, or if the AV bonus is permenant.
Does the monster make an attack on a result of 1 or 2 on that round?
Is the AV increase just for that round or is it permenant and accumulative?

… if it is accumulative, then I have a 1 HP rat with a 55 AV. Please send help.

Hi Macauley F, the bonus to the monsters AV is just for the forthcoming round. At the end of the round its AV returns to normal.

Good luck in them dungeons!

This system looks awesome. I have already purchased the world builder (before even Bk1) because my interest is really in long campaigns. I have perused it and watched many videos (dungeon dive, Canje, geek gamers, and I think, artichoke). I am now purchasing Bk 1 and also considering the accessories on Game Crafters. Is book 1 included in the Game Crafters set? I am thrilled to read in comments that Book 2 covers parties, so I will be purchasing that as well. I'm excited to get started!

Hi Geoffrey, thanks so much for your nice message. The game crafter Mapping Game does not include the D100 Dungeon Book, which is exclusive to DriveThruRPG.

I just bought book 1 and book 6. I noticed the character sheets are different. There was only added fields to book 6 compared to book 1 (v3.2) character sheets. Are the character sheets not standardized for this system? As I plan to get the other books, will there be character sheet differences? If so, which character sheet would be the most complete?

Hi, I would recommend using the Adventure Sheets from the World Builder. They can be downloaded from: https://www.mk-games.co.uk/downloads using the BOOK 6: WORLD BUILDER GAME SHEETS. The Adventure Sheet in this download is the most up to date.

One small issue: I am not able to bookmark pages in the pdf on my iPad. Is this intentional?
Thanks.

Hi, Martin Knight. I noticed you reply to comments. I have been mulling over the rules concerning potions/brews in "Before your next quest" phase. Are adventures permitted to drink Fate Potions before rolling on "Table J/Investments" to influence the market? Are adventures permitted to use Fate Potions before "Searching the Market"? Hypothetically Speaking: After rolling to obtain a Legendary Item on a Treasure Table, Can I then subsequently drink a fate potion before rolling on "Table A" and another on "Legendary Table"? Lastly, does the fate bonus stack by drinking multiple potions? Thank you and please continue to bring us more content. It's wonderful.

Hi Brandon, the use of fate potions can be used for rolls on any tables, and they do stack. You can drink a fate potion at any stage during a quest and during the BYNQ phase. The only restriction to drinking potions is of course during combat, but a fate potion will not have a benefit if consumed during an encounter. Some players like fate potions, others feel they make the game easier. A common house rule is to make the fate potion on table N unavailable to buy during the BYNQ phase, but ultimately it's your decision.

This product is all you need to get started but be warned: this game is highly addictive if you love dungeon crawling. I have been having a blast! It scratches my gaming itch. I love board games and video games, but you will get something completely different with D100 Dungeon. Martin Knight has truly created something very special here. I plan to get all 6 books, eventually. I am working through the Campaign in Book 2 and really appreciate the quality of the Hard Cover, Standard Cover Books.

Great game! I have a few questions:

When a quest has an Encounter Modifier, how do you treat results that fall outside of the range 1-100? Just use the dice as rolled? Treat the result as “1” or “100” as appropriate? I’ve been simply re-rolling, until I realized statistically this makes the basic quests harder!

Do you get to keep the stuff you loot in the basic dungeoneering quests (1-5), or is turning the items in required to complete the quest?

When backtracking through the dungeon, does it still take one time period to traverse each chamber, even if they are totally cleared out?

When a monster successfully flees, is it essentially gone from the game or will it be back at full health should you reenter the room later? (I have been house-ruling that fled monsters have a 50% chance of being back.)

If you defeat a red room encounter, will there be a new encounter should you re-enter the room? I’ve been house-ruling that defeated red rooms...See more

Hi Travis, below are some answers:

A result of 0 or below on an encounter table is treated as 1, and a result of 101 or more is treated as 100.
You do get to keep the items and equipment gathered during the training quests.
You follow the turn sequence whether progressing or backtracking the dungeon, so it sill costs 1 time for each area you move to.
When a monster flees it is gone for good.
The encounter is only rolled the first time the red area is entered.

Hope this helps and good luck in the dungeons.

Saw some YouTube videos, the tabletop engineer, playing this game and the space game and it looks interesting and fun. My hesitation is there’s a lot of books in the series and it would really become expensive. What do I need to play? Even this book says “book one“. I don’t see any bundles either.

You can find the Version number on the third page in, where the DUNGEON SONG is displayed. It is at the top of the page. However, if it doesn't have the version number displayed there, then the book will be the V3.0. A few of the earlier editions didn't contain a Version number. Hope this helps.

There is no printing restriction on the PDF, you could try downloading the pdf again in case it was corrupted the first time. Otherwise, you could reach out to DrivethruRPG for assistance.

I'm thinking of buying the softcover editions. My local copy center can then cut off the spine, punch holes in the pages, and spiral bind them so that they lie flat or even fold back. They will do this pretty cheaply.

My question is: Is there enough white space on each page near the binding to allow this without cutting off any words or drawings?

Hi Ken, I couldn't say for sure. You could ask the printer if they can help by reducing the print size slightly and offsetting away from the spine, if that is even possible. Here is a video where it was done; however, the binding is very close to the text: https://boardgamegeek.com/video/184689/d100-dungeon/d100-dungeon-v3-book-pod-rebinding

Hi Nikos, sorry you are having this issue. The dpf isn't set with any passwords, or printing restrictions. You could try downloading the file again from your account, library or switching to another pdf reader. I downloaded the file this morning to check and printed through Adobe reader and it worked fine, with no request for passwords. Please let me know how you get on.

Thank you for the expedient reply, and I was attempting to print it out through Staples using their online portal and it mentioned a password. However, I opened it at my abode and at my place of work employing Adobe and there was no issue. I instead used an alternate printing option and had both volumes bound for use. I am eager to begin the journey through the full system as it is impressive.

Hi Karl, all of the world building is handled in book 6. The earlier books were released before world building became a thing for D100 Dungeon. Future supplements may well include additional material for world building.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
