"Lifting the Veil on a Scientific Marvel in the Darkest Corners of the Colony"

Several nights ago, the whole colony of New South Wales was witness to a most remarkable meteorite storm which culminated in an enormous fireball streaking across the sky and falling to earth. Men of science among the colonial administration know this this isn's some superstitious omen, but a rare scientific event -- a meteorite fall. Keen to secure some specimens, they hastily assemble an expedition. Unfortunately the "falling star" came to earth at a remote corner of the Blue Mountain foothills, a region still virtually unknown to white settlers. Thus the exploration will also be filling in the blanks on the official maps.

Ticket of Leave #12 is a fully-fledged scenario for Convicts & Cthulhu. It looks at the remote region of the Blue Mountains, a formiddable range that skirts the entire western side of the NSW colony and has thus-far proven entirely impassable to white explorers. It also provides some historical context about scientific inquiry in the penal settlements, and some likely reasons for having scientific Investigators in the colony.

The bulk of the supplement, focusses on the specific trials and tribulations which face the expedition party venturing out to find the fallen meteorite. What strange new species of flora and fauna will they find ...? And what strange things might find *them* out in the uncharted bushland?

A version of this scenario will form the official Convicts & Cthulhu game at GenCon 2018.

Tickets-of-Leave are self-contained additions to the Convicts & Cthulhu setting for Lovecraftian roleplaying in the early penal colonies of Australia. Each includes a selection of game elements which can either be used collectively as a thumbnail sketch of a scenario, or can be used in isolation to provide pieces that enhance a scenario of your own invention.

This is not a standalone product, but relies upon the Convicts & Cthulhu setting also published by Cthulhu Reborn. The Convicts & Cthulhu core book is a lavishly illustrated 96-page sourcebook available in both PDF and print as a "Pay-What-You-Want" title.

Convicts & Cthulhu is designed to allow Call of Cthulhu Keepers and players to run scenarios and campaigns set in the penal colonies of early Australia. It particularly targets the historical period from 1795 to 1810.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
