EDIT: This edition of SCRAWL is now obsolete. I have put all of the SCRAWL: Ultimate edition products here.

The see the latest SCRAWL edition, SCRAWL: Revised edition, please go here: SCRAWL: Revised Edition (Beta) - Slloyd14 | DriveThruRPG.com

SCRAWL (short for Solo CRAWL) is a solo fantasy game system which encourages old style crawling around wildernesses, cities and dungeons, exploring strange new locations, looking for treasure, meeting interesting creatures and slaying them. This is 100%, good old fashioned, completely unapolagetic murder-hobo crawling.

This is the ultimate edition of SCRAWL, which includes the rules, methods for populating a wilderness and tables to generate dungeons. It's everything you need to travel a land, meet interesting creatures and kill them.

Enjoy!

This is an amazing resource! I am going through this book and finding stuff to not only give me something to do when I'm alone (Not an uncommon occurrence during these lockdowns) but also finding resources to help my more exploration minded players in a D&D game. This is fantastic!

A while back I got a copy of the SCRAWL rules that are much shorter. I saw it was no longer in my library. Is that still available? Or is there a shorter version of Scrawl?

It is not available at the moment. I presume you have a rulebook without the generators. Would you like me to send you a smaller file?

Hello,

This is an amazing solo hex crawl. Makes for some fun late night games.

On your blog you mention Wayferer, but I cannot find that anywhere. Is this also a solo game? And where can i find it?

Thank you!

Hi George D. It is a solo game that I started a while ago. I initially made it as a low magic medieval version of SCRAWL. I made a rules set and 8 gamebooks to go with it. Would you like them?

Hello,

Thank you for your reply. I would absolutely love to have them. Feel free to contact me via email- you should be able to do so as a publisher here. Also, got any plans to work more on Scrawl? I honestly love this game. It brings back memories of Barbarian Prince.

Hello!

I assume that bottles can't be resold, have no haggling modifier and weigh 0 encumbrance.
BTW, you forgot to add the bottles into the rules you added to the small SCRAWLs (^_^;; ).

Bottles can't be resold. I gave them 1 encumbrance. I'll add the rules to the Small SCRAWLs.

The introduction says " If you’re looking for a simulationist experience in a realistic representation of some historical period, then you might need to look elsewhere (preferably, my other solo game which is very low fantasy and takes inspiration from history)" but I see no mention of what that other solo game is. What is the name of that other game?

Hi Patrick! I did make another game alongside SCRAWL, called Wayfarer, which was meant to be set in a medieval type land with very little magic. I will continue it one day, but it will be using a different system and I am planning on it to be more bronze age. I won't be doing any Wayfarer stuff again, but I'll put a collection of all the stuff I did make up on this site in the next few days.

Many thanks. Please could you clarify? I downloaded it and the contents page was there which could hyperlink to the section I linked to. I assume you mean something else?

Helllo!

I mean within the text. E.g. on page 10, Creating your character, we get the following:

Abilities: Your character’s abilities represent what they are good at. Throughout SCRAWL, you will have ability tests (see page). Ability tests list abilities that will be useful. For every ability you have that is listed, you get to roll an extra die and then take the best roll. There are 36 abilities (see page) and each class has a list of abilities that they have (see page)

A lot of 'see page' statements without any page number mentioned.

Deathworks

Hello!

Thanks for fixing the page numbers.

The new update about small weapons, is it just the weapons/equipment section I have to look out for and the new page about adventure creation, or are there changes all over the document. I printed the book yesterday, and printing and cutting over 180 pages again is not really something I would like to do if I don't have to (^_^;;

Hello!

Thanks for the clarification.

BTW, the explanation for the children encounter (pg.80) seems a bit odd:

Children
You see a gang of children playing games and laughing. Upon seeing you, they ask if you can do any tricks. If you do, engage in a battle of wills.
Difficulty: 3 (Perform, Sleight of Hand) Will: 3 Special: Non-lethal Experience: 1
Difficulty 3 (Axe, Survival) Will 4 Special: Non-lethal Experience 1
If you succeed, you get 1 wood. You may do this any number of times.

I can engage them with Axe/Survival and get 1 wood and do so as often as I like? That does sound a bit awkward. Did it get compounded with something like an opportunity to fell trees?

Deathworks

The children thing seems to have a wood collection thing pasted in as well. Ignore everything about wood. Many thanks for bringing this to my attention. I'll be releasing errata at the end of the month.

Hello!

Thanks. Is there no reward for succeeding with the children, then? The children thing hasn't made it into the errata, it seems, though.

And about the small SCRAWLs, couldn't you have both a version with and without the rules? For those printing things, it is kind of a waste to reprint rules they already have (and it is also bothersome should there be rules-updates as you then have to reprint all titles (at least partially) so as not to get confused).

Deathworks

Hi Deathworks - if you succeed at the battle of wills, you get an experience point with the children.

I have changed the Small SCRAWLS to have a no rules file and I have added the children thing to the errata.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
