A giant robot is smashing down Main Street. Your best friend tried to kiss you. Your mom thinks your grades need work.
Your mentor thinks your team is bringing you down. Oh, and your costume is ripped.

Just another day in Halcyon City.

ENnies Silver 2017

Masks: A New Generation is an ENnie-award winning superhero roleplaying game in which a team of young heroes fights villains, saves lives, and tries to figure out who they are—noble paragons? Dark avengers? Or regular kids? All against the backdrop of Halcyon City, the greatest city in the world.

This is the Phone Edition of Masks: A New Generation, a restructured version of the game made for easy reading on mobile devices. This PDF contains special links that let you jump around in the book easily, as well as a format that's perfect for reading on smaller screens.

As with the main Masks corebook, this product includes:

– Ten playbooks for young superheroes, so you can create your own awesome characters
– Rules for superheroic action, interpersonal drama, and changing identity
– Detailed instructions for running the game, building villains, and playing to find out what happens
– Tools for creating your own custom material for Masks

Masks makes use of the same rules-light engine as Apocalypse WorldMonsterheartsDungeon WorldUrban Shadows, and Epyllion to create stories about young superheroes in the vein of Young JusticeYoung Avengers, and Teen Titans.

So what're you waiting for, hero? Time to get to work.

I got this in a bundle and I just want to say that it's wonderful to read on phones. I wish more games would do this. However page 6 is blank. I looked in the regular pdf and it it is right after "Halcyon hosts" (on page 5) it should go on to read on page 6 "the headquarters of A.E.G.I.S., the Advanced Expert Group for Intervention and Security, an elite government agency..." And more stuff is there anyway that this can be fixed? Sooner rather than later would be nice. Does the company ever read these discussions? It could be the PDF reader I'm using I'll try Adobe and see if that makes a difference.

Nevermind. It was the PDF reader I was using. I switched to Adobe and page 6 is just fine.

I clicked on the banner advertising this and other phone .pdfs. I appreciate the format, but there is something I take issue with. I own the traditionally formatted .pdf of this book. Some companies are updating their traditionally formatted .pdfs to include the phone .pdf, which I hope this becomes the norm. I am more than a little miffed by the prospect of being asked to pay for content I already own, albeit in a new format.

I wholeheartedly agree. I dont like the idea of paying for something again when it provides no new content. I also did try it because I was intrigued and it was relatively inexpensive, and i dont think it was worth it. I really like this game, but this isn't the best format to get it in. For reading on my phone, i would much rather use the normal pdf. In this one, the text is unusually large and it doesnt link chapters as most pdfs normally do, and instead has links to the table of contents on the bottom of the page.

Copied from another discussion about another system using this format but relevant here as well so here it is:

"I agree with Robert. Having to pay separately for a phone formatted edition of something you already own is ridiculous. Yes it is an additional cost to have to make a version formatted specifically for phones however it should be a selling point of your complete package not another chance to make a sale. Also why is it that the exact same rules cost $6.99 on the phone but the regular "not-phone" pdf costs $20? It's like a mobile game costing $2.99 but then upcharging to $14.99 when it goes to PC or console for the exact same game. All this says is that the game is worth $6.99 not $20 and that buying the regular PDF would be a waste of my money.

Meanwhile there are companies out there that will give me any additional digital formats for free when they update them such as an .epub file or black&white version for printing. Then you are seeing more and more companies...See more

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
