Welcome to Issue Five: Quaranzine Part 2 If you haven’t read Issue Four, I need to tell you that this is not an issue packed with advice converting the classic board game Pandemic in to a tabletop roleplaying scenario, nor is it a devoted to Max Max-style post-apocalyptic settings. Sorry. It’s the second of three issues that I’ve put together in response to the COVID-19 global pandemic. I’ve needed to spend the time normally devoted to creating this zine taking making arrangements for my mental and physical health. Trust me, I’d rather have been working on this. I still need to make a living, though, which requires that I put out some sort of content. Thankfully the very nature of a zine is that it can be anything you want or need it to be. While I love the format of the early ...

Welcome to Issue Four: Quaranzine Part 1 A bit of clarification before we begin: This is not an issue packed with advice on running modern-day medical thrillers, developing post-apocalyptic fantasies, or rules for deadly viruses. Sorry. It’s the first of three issues that I’ve put together in response to the COVID-19 global pandemic. During this period of social distancing and self-isolation, I still need to make a living. Yet this situation has required me to spend some extra time tending to my mental and physical health. I’ve needed to spend some time helping others as well. All of which has taken away from the time normally spent working on this zine and related projects. The nature of a zine, though, is that it can be anything you want or need it to be. While I love...

in this issue:  fandom as religion - In the past decade fandom has become contentious and un-fun. With the mainstreaming of things formerly relegated to the fringes, is there any reason to continue supporting an increasingly toxic fan culture? novel-style character profiles - A character sheet is only good for the game system it was created for, but a character profile is truly universal. Learn how to create character guides the way fiction writers do. worldbuilding basics - Create a setting from scratch by starting with the most important information – the things the players need to know at the beginning of the campaign, and what the gamemaster requires to run it. supplication: a different type of adventure - What happens when the player characters are downtrodden and persecuted, and h...

Welcome to Issue Six: Quaranzine Part 3 If you’re experiencing a bit of deja vu, then you’ve already read Issue Four and Issue Five. Thanks! For those just tuning in, this “quaranzine” special is not an issue packed with advice recreating the 1995 medical disaster movie Outbreak at your tabletop. Nor does it delve into the possible armor class protection offed by hazmat suits. Sorry. It’s the third of three issues that I’ve put together in response to the COVID-19 global pandemic. As a professional content creator, if I don’t publish things I don’t get to eat. Because preparation for the needs of my physical and mental health issues took a big bite out of the time normally reserved for working on this zine, I needed to find an alternative solution. A zine, being a nebulous...

in this issue:  The Necessity of Kindness - Rather than write about horror as originally planned, I decided to focus on being pleasant to one another instead. There is no tabletop roleplaying without people. Play nice.  Paladins Revisited - We think of paladins as holy warriors, but what if we came at them from a more romantic perspective? Rather than devotion to gods, what if they focused on love for a person? Worldbuilding Through Relationships - Love and friendship can change the world – or build one. A look at setting design centered on what people are willing to do to protect and defend one another.  Adventures in Love and Friendship - Friends and lovers want to be together, but there will always be obstacles. No matter what type of relationship it is, drama and con...

I'd really like to get this bundle, but if there's a collected codex coming soon would it be a waste to get this now?

PUBLISHER
The Codex is an expanded version of the system in Issue Zero. It's not an anthology of the zine.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.
Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
