Let Your Adventure Begin...

Welcome to Alphatiev, a world where elves and dragons live in the land. A world where magical airships fly across the skies from great empires. A world where darkness was once vanquished… and now threatens to creep back in through the shadows between peaceful peoples. This is a world of heroes, monsters, and stories. And it is your world to explore and make your own. Welcome to a world of Fantasy.

U3 Fantasy is a complete role-playing game for you to download, read, print (if you want to) and play. Using a rules-lite game engine, you and up to 4 of your friends can immerse yourself in the world heroes going on quests against evil forces that threaten the land.

  • Make a character to play in minutes.
  • Create a quest to go on and encounters to overcome (or use one of ours in the box).
  • Grab some twenty-sided dice and tokens (not included)
  • Tell a complete story together in one night.

Let your imagination run wild and watch your characters grow in the rules-lite take on fantasy adventuring.

The Core Game Mechanic

U3 Fantasy uses a d20-based version of the U3 rules. Essentially, to do just about anything that could fail at in the Story, players declare all the Details their PC has that applies to the situation (like that Dwarven-steel sword, their Fight attribute, and their Fighter Specialty). Then, the Game Master (GM) picks a difficulty level between 5 to 25 and modifies it with Story Details. Players roll a d20, add any Dots assigned to their Details to their total, and sees if they are at or above the target number.

So, it has a little of the classic d20 feel (roll a die + bonuses vs target number), but at least half of the crunch. Best yet, if the PC succeeds, the player describes what happens. If they fail, it is the GM's responsibility to describe how the PC failed poorly. This gives players a lot of agency in the game, and makes everything move quicker.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
