About Seeds of Terror

Type40's goal is to create a series of accessible and exciting scenarios for Call of Cthulhu that Keepers can pick up and run in one evening.

Each Seed of Terror is a concise, easy-to-run Call of Cthulhu adventure designed for a single session of exciting play. Suitable for 4 to 5 players, they include maps, handouts, and five ready-to-play investigators. Everything needed to play has been presented as clearly as possible for a quick fun game. No need for hours of Keeper preparation, just pick one up, have a quick read, and dive right in!

An important goal of each adventure is to remove barriers of entry to new players. Leaning heavily on well-known tropes but at the same time subverting normal expectations, the Seeds of Terror line explores easily-referenced and familiar situations to help immerse players in the action.

Seeds of Terror are perfect for introducing new players to Call of Cthulhu.

Is there really only a first floor map? I read that in a review; seems like it would be a problem...

Sean, thanks for the comment. Yes, just one floor and I can safely say, it is not a problem at all

I bought it, and it looks like a great quick adventure, and the map is beautiful, but unless I've missed something in my quick read, there's nothing to stop the PCs from running upstairs to hide/explore/whatever. A map would seem handy, there.

I needed something to kick off a Gaslight Campaign. I've bought this and transported it to the Isle of Wight, right next to the Roman Villa at Brading. Fans of the original Cthulhu By Gaslight "Yorkshire Horrors" scenario might guess why !! Right now my victims (SORRY !! PLAYERS) are enjoying a State Dinner honouring the Egyptian Ambassador at Osborne House and are off to unwrap a mummy at the end of the week. They'll never know what hit them (!!)

The Mummy of Pemberley Grange is a tight, four-page scenario for the Call of Cthulhu RPG set in the 1920s and is terrific to play in a single session. I posted my thoughts in a more full review below. I think it would be excellent to run standalone, as a side adventure in a campaign where you can make it fit, or just as an episode in a bottle to take a break from a long campaign. I’ve run the scenario only twice, but had rip-roaring fun both times. I think my players did, too. Full review here, but with spoilers, so be warned.

What is the reason that it's only 4-5 players? Can't it be played with 3 PCs for example? Also, quite expensive for €7,61 (22 pages). A better preview with TOC would help maybe.

Laszlo, yes it can be played with 3 or 2 or even just 1 player if you so wish.

Absolutely amazing! One of the most fun, and exciting short scenarios I've played. I was lucky enough to have Allen from Type40 as the Keeper online at a convention game and he ran down everything that was going on behind the scenes for the keeper and what we were doing at that time. It is set up perfectly, with how the Keeper can coordinate their activities as a foil for the characters. Deviously plotted and a crazy good time! And don't get me started on the fantastic props...

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
