Greetings adventurers and Game Masters! 

I am very excited to announce the release of CAVERNS OF CALAMITY: GOBLIN’S RAGE; an introductory-level fantasy adventure intended for 4 to 6 neophyte player characters of levels 1 to 3. GOBLIN'S RAGE is the second in a three part series which is an homage to the classic adventures of old. The series began with KOBOLD'S FURY, continues here, and ends in ORC’S WRATH (October 2020). This adventure is written to be compatible with OSRIC and other OSR games; and is useable with most fantasy ruleset. 

Synopsis: In this adventure your players will be employed by a gnomish inventor’s organization, the Gnomish Advanced Research Institute (or G.A.R.I. for short). The gnomes recently discovered a cache of rare mushrooms from the other side of the known world being traded on the local black market.

The black market sellers of this rare botanical treasure (rumoured to be a pinkish-white fungus with red “blood” drops which ooze from its cap, known as the “Devil’s Tooth”) were intent on keeping their identity a secret. Unfortunately for them, once this exotic plant came to the attention of the ever inquisitive and highly resourceful gnomes they quickly discovered (through diligent sleuthing, liberal bribes and much snooping) the source of the fungi: a set of caverns in the far southern foothills of Dùn Loachas. An expedition team of G.A.R.I. researchers was organized swiftly and set off in search of these botanical rarities, but they never returned!

Unbeknown to the gnomes, their expeditionary team was walking into the dragon’s den! For the cavern was guarded by a pack of bloodthirsty humanoids (goblins and bugbears), intent on keeping this valuable prize to themselves. They slew some of the gnome researchers and captured others, in hopes of quashing any outside knowledge of their valuable prize. 

So the gnomes have turned to professional adventurers to save the day. They gnomes need the players to investigate the caverns, recover the plants they need for their research, and find and rescue members of the prior expeditionary force, if at all possible. 

Are your players up to the challenge?

This adventure revisits the frontier village of Dùn Loachas (which translates as Fort Valour in the Common tongue), which lies on the borderlands of the marauder infested Parched Desert. The entire story arch will take your players from levels 1 to 3, and makes an excellent start for a new campaign! While written as the second in a series of adventures, Goblin's Rage may also be run as a stand-alone adventure; there is guidance throughout the module on how the GM may run it in either mode (e.g. a stand-alone or series adventure). In the initial adventure in the series (KOBOLD'S FURY) the players were up against a den of kobolds, seeking to to secure a rubber plant and rescue one of the gnome researchers. In this installment they will face stronger foes when they invade a cavern complex full of goblins and bugbears! These fearsome foes occupy a set of caverns and the remains of an ancient cult shrine which lay further up the cliffside from the kobold den explored last time.
