The last of humanity are fleeing across space, pursued by the Corax, an implacable alien intelligence that destroyed their civilization. They’re outnumbered and outgunned. Supplies are running low. Last Fleet is a tabletop roleplaying game where you play courageous pilots, officers, engineers, politicians and journalists struggling to hold the human race – and themselves – together under unbelievable pressure. The game focuses on action, intrigue and drama in this high-stakes situation. You’ll fight space battles, search for enemy infiltrators, and navigate faction politics. You’ll strive against your own self-doubt and sometimes crack under the stress.

This book includes the full game rules and setting, twelve character playbooks, two quick start scenarios, and the alternate “Promethia Damned” setting, in which teleporting cities flee from the god of death. Additional material by Misha Bushyager, Joanna Piancastelli and Gav Thorpe.

Last Fleet was nominated for best rules in the IGDN Indie Groundbreaker awards.

So, as a big BSG fan (the old one much more than the newer one, but still both); this looks really interesting, so thanks for writing it!

Two questions immediately come to my mind:

1. Are there a lot of adventures/adventure seeds written already for it?

2. How tied to PBtA is it? I'm not a fan of that rule-set...but if there's enough 'world building'/'adventure ideas' in it, I would definitely buy this and utilize with a different game engine.

Well, for what it's worth, Last Fleet is its own system with the only concrete thing in common with other PBTA games being the 2d6 (miss/weak hit/strong hit) dice rolling, the use of "moves" to codify actions and abilities, and the approach to GMing (agenda/principles/moves). With that said, probably about half the book is concerned with describing the rules, moves and playbooks, which are all bound up in the particular system Last Fleet uses.

Last Fleet does include material you could transfer elsewhere: there's advice on how to create a fleet rich with plot possibilities and kick a BSG-type game off with an engaging, tense situation, the game's principles codify some great advice on GMing a game like this, and you've got an essay on creating interesting play in a military context (playing with rank and hierarchy and so forth), some factions with sample NPCs, a couple of quickstart adventures emphasising charged relationships and fraught situations, some sample ships, and the alternative...See more

Been looking at the Playbooks and there seem to be a lot of inconsistencies with the content in the book itself:

All Playbooks
* The Relationship questions do no match those in the book a all.

Aries
* What does the Skin specific breaking point do?

Cancer
* "You'll have to got through me" is named wrong. Should be "Stalwart Defender"
* There seems to be missing a checkbox for the move "Walk out of this room, while you still can."

Virgo
* CAG is called "Squadron Leader" in the book

Libra
* Wise Counsel is missing in the playbook

Sagittarius
* People lover is called "Getting to know all about you" in the book

I haven't compared the text yet from the playbooks and the book yet.

And lastly, why does some have more breaking point moves than others? doesn't it mean they have more "hp" than others?

We did a print run for Last Fleet which has meant much better quality print and binding, at no extra cost to the customer. Hence there's no POD, but you can get a print version of the game (with PDF) on our website - see link on the right.

This... Sounds "a bit" like nuBSG. ... I'm not complaining, mind, but: Is there enough in there to set it apart from "reskinned nuBSG"? (Having the possibility for an upbeat campaign ending would be a selling point, for one. :D)

There definitely is the possibility for an upbeat campaign ending: the game tracks the highs and lows of your campaign against the Cylons, uh, sorry I meant Corax, via the Momentum track. As you win victories, you start to play offence, targeting enemy assets or securing assets of your own instead of constantly running away.

There's also the potential to focus on different aspects of the action: for instance, you could play (e.g.) a journalist, a criminal or a marine, and thereby push the action into a different theatre from the BSG-standard of space battles and high politics.

Oh also, you could use the alternative campaign setting where you're mythic greeks fleeing the god of death on board teleporting cities. Obviously in a sense that's just another reskin, but it speaks to the game's flexibility.

I dunno, there's probably other stuff that makes it different, but that's what leapt to mind when I read your question.

Is the PDF fully bookmarked? Does purchaser have ability to add bookmarks?
I have to ask because have been screwed by this detail before.

PDFs are useless without bookmarks or the ability to add your own.

You can get a print version of the game from the Black Armada website. See link on the right hand side of the page. We're not doing POD, as we did a full print run, which gives us better quality and cost. And if you buy the print version from us, a PDF version is included and we'll be only too happy to link that to your Drivethru library.

These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
