ADD TO WISHLIST >

When the player characters receive a coded message from the science station at Epsilon Alpha III, they learn of the discovery of a powerful alien energy source. However, the artifact is located in an area sacred to the native inhabitants, who are as yet unaware of the Federation. When the Federation’s adversaries arrive at the planet, also intent on securing the artifact, the player characters must decide how to resolve the impending conflict—by diplomacy, confrontation, or involving the locals and violating the Prime Directive in the process?

This standalone 21-page PDF adventure by Jonathan M. Thompson is for the Star Trek Adventures Roleplaying Game and is set during The Next Generation era. This adventure also contains advice for adaptation for use in campaigns based in other Star Trek eras. Download includes a regular version and a printer-friendly version.

The basic premise is a solid one, the characters are interesting - but this kind of needs another editing pass as of this post. Trying to avoid spoilers here, but: An ability shared by Adversary A and Adversary B names Adversary A in both entries. A friendly NPC is being blackmailed, but there's no way to resolve that situation in the mission as written. In addition, the module seems to change it's mind halfway through - Faction B shows up after Faction A and is initially characterized as willing to help the players if it means messing with Faction A, a chance for players to make an ally . . . but then Faction B is framed as being the primary actor against the party in several instances, sometimes without Faction A even being involved, and Faction A is the only one considered as a potential 'frenemy' in the Continuing Voyages.

That being said, the ingredients are there, and actually running the mission was a successful session that the players enjoyed. Just needs a bit more care compared to other...See more

I totally agree about the editing pass, I personally noticed a few editorial errors when I went through it after the release. As the author you dont always notice things when you first write them, as they say its a terrible idea to edit yourself. I am hoping to get the opportunity to correct those errors and have it updated. If it helps any, the original draft was written with TOS and different factions in mind. I tried to get the new parameters to work out, and yes the change halfway is actually deliberate. I probably could have done a better job with that explanation.

Thank you anyway for purchasing it. I will see if I can poke the bear to get some edits on it in the near future.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
