Redesigned Archetypes - The Ranger

Faced with a long trek through dense wilderness, the expedition recruits a skilled, wise ranger to guard against the dangers of the wilds and lead them safely to their destination. When an unexpected wagon breakdown adds extra days to their trip, the expedition is saved thanks to the ranger’s resourcefulness.

The caravan was on alert for bandits, thanks to their guide spotting the signs earlier in the day. When the fight broke out, however, few expected to see their guide leaping into the fray. Fewer still expected the guide alone to put down half a dozen of the bandits, firing a handful of arrows before fluidly pulling out a sword and flanking them along with a trained wolf.

This re-imagining of the archetypal Ranger builds on the skillful, clever nature of the Rogue. With a specialization in outdoor exploration, as well as an extension of the Rogue’s skill-based expertise, the Ranger has powerful and reliable capabilities while striking out into the wilderness. Building on the Rogue’s ability to deal devastating sneak attacks, the Ranger adds flexible weapons training and the support of an animal companion to allow them to adapt their strengths to any situation.
