Hellscape Map Tiles

The burning lands on the halls of hell are a blasted wasteland of soot and fire. Where the very earth bleeds molten rock. The Hellscape Map Tiles set was designed to give Game Masters the ability to craft their own slice of hell as adventure maps for the virtual tabletop. Build fields of blasted earth, or hot lava flows that burn away the grass of your wilderness maps. Sculpt terrible demon fortresses from the rubble wall tiles. Or combine the Hellscape Map Tiles with one of our other sets to create fantasy battle maps for your players to explore!

What is a Map Tile?

All role-playing games make use of adventure maps that Game Masters design for their Players to explore, these maps are generally based on a 5ft square grid to control player character and monster movement. An individual map tile is a 5ft square section of ready-made art that a Game Master can use to build up an adventure map, block by block, square by 5ft square. Each map tile art asset from Studio WyldFurr is a unique combination of photographic source material combined with hand-drawn artwork. We use a map scale of 180 pixels per 5ft map grid square, this gives us a scale of three on-screen pixels per every real-world inch.

This edition of the Hellscape Map Tiles pack is designed for use by advanced users who have access to graphics editing programs and apps such as Photoshop, Gimp, Affinity Photo, Krita, or Clip Studio (we recommend Gimp as it is free and a great graphics app). The package contains raw image files in PNG, JPG, and WEBP file formats. These image files form the building blocks which you can assemble into the form of a dungeon, fortress, or whatever kind of structure you desire.

To begin creating an adventure map, start with a blank canvas, and set a guide grid to 180 pixels so the assets snap in place. Then build your adventure map block by block until you have filled in the map canvas. Then export the map as a single image (a JPG or WEBP) and import it into your chosen virtual tabletop App (such as Fantasy Grounds, FoundryVTT, Roll20, or D20Pro).
