Colony Builder

ADD TO WISHLIST >

COLONY BUILDER is a supplement for the Cepheus Engine roleplaying game and the Platinum selling HOSTILE setting. However, since it uses real world units, such as dollars, kilogrammes and megawatts, it makes a useful resource for ANY science fiction RPG.

Build a colony within the HOSTILE setting. Build a colony from your favourite SF movie or TV show. Make it pay. Keep your costs low. And then test in the market. How will it fare with a key group of characters at the helm? Make decisions for them as they try to fix the colony's inevitable problems, chart the fate of your creation into glory or ignominy. And then watch the corporation come in to take your profits!

Colony Builder provides easy-to-use tools that players need to create their own living and breathing extrasolar colonies. Take a budget and spend it wisely, and keep in mind your environment – every world is potentially hostile! Once built, your players can take up the roles of key personnel and get to manage the fledgling colony, leading the colonists in the struggle against hunger, air-loss, earthquakes, alien parasites and more…

The book covers the origins of colonial projects and which organizations are responsible for its creation, planning and inception. It includes a dozen useful vehicles and robots (including tree logging machines, hunter-killer seadrones and 4-legged excavators).

Look out for the gritty, near future HOSTILE SETTING book as well as its companion, the HOSTILE RULES book. A dark, eerie and harsh near future roleplaying game. Survival horror.

I'm probably going to be dense after looking though the pdf but what colony buildings require power to make them work?

Also, for ease if use would it be possible to have all the charts and tables in a separate section in the document?

It’s averaged out based on the kw need for each colonist. The value varies if it is a vacuum colony or seabed colony, etc.

Hey man great work on this rules. I love them quite q bit but I am wondering will you take a stab at larger scale play? Say like the old school Pocket Empire or Dynasties supplement? I am a bit curious how to transition a colony past pPOP 4/5. Thinking of implementing some of this colony dev stuff on my solo Pirates of Drinax campaign.

Hi Luis, I don't have plans for that, it's not something I think I can do ... but my friend John Watts has published 'Balancing Act' for his Clement Sector setting and certainly could do that job. It's Cepheus Engine compatible too: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/266329/Balancing-Act-Interstellar-Relations-in-Clement-Sector

Mmm, I've checked the PDF - nothing seems to be wrong. However, I've just uploaded the pdf again, try that. If you still have a problem then please get in touch on the Contact page of the Zozer Games website.

I think the issue is with my phone. I still can't open it on my phone but it's completely fine opening on my computer.

OK! I hope you work it out - although I'm not sure I could read any of my PDFs on my own phone (but that is an eyesight issue, not a software issue).

Yes, it will be 7-10 days. I have ordered another proof copy - I was not happy with the proof I received today. I will post here as soon as it is ready as well as on the Zozer Games Facebook group.

For the errata file: I don't think a tilt-rotor costs One Trillion Dollars. For that matter, a forklift probably shouldn't cost $7,000,000,000. The column heading for cost on page 39 may be using the wrong units.

Or someone's doing some really dodgy accounting to screw over their rival's new colony.

It’s designed for solo play, if you have the Zozer Games ‘Solo’ book, you could also import the character interaction rules for enhanced play.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
