The Sword Saint

Sword saints are warriors who walk the path already taken by another, looking to achieve such legendary skill that they, too, will be remembered by history. The true sword saints of the past were figures who achieved a level of skill beyond mastery in their craft. Though modern practitioners call themselves sword saints, this is only to draw a parallel between themselves and these heroes.

In practice, they would usually only call themselves warriors, fighters, samurai, or otherwise. It is unbecoming for them to address themselves as sword saints unless they are arrogant, but this does not always stop them. ‘Phantom saint’ is a term they commonly use, describing their emulation of an ancient swordmaster’s lifestyle, combat skills, and practices until they come truly into their own.

As a class the sword saint relies heavily on their resource, focus points, to perform a variety of techniques that help them to adapt to any situation. They rely on focus techniques, which each path of devotion features unique versions and variants of.

Paths of Devotion II

This document contains six new subclasses for the Sword Saint, each based upon a historic figure (with one exception, based on a lack of inspiration entirely). They are:

  • Gadabout. A Sword Saint who has fallen or strayed from their path, and no longer cares for anything except their personal gain and enjoyment.
  • Way of Chulainn. A druidic quarter-caster subclass that utilizes natural magic, has a tendency toward thrown weapons, and can become a horrifying beast that embodies death.
  • Way of the Cindered Soul. Learning from a being who burned away their own soul to save a kingdom, this path imbues its practitioner with flames, endurance, and a curse of undeath.
  • Way of Ittōsai. A swordsman who seeks to end conflicts in a single strike.
  • Way of Rebellion. Learning from the style of an infamous devil hunter, those who follow this path gain a variety of methods of combat and defense for many situations.
  • Way of the Wolf. Those who construct prosthetic devices that many lesser devices can be housed within, and deployed at will.
Along with these new paths of devotion, this document contains a saint myth weapon that corresponds to each of these classes (except the Gadabout). These pieces of equipment are artifacts, and though useful on their own are especially powerful in the hands of their designated sword saint.

(The Sword Saint class was made for the Nat19: Vestige of Ophiuchus D&d 5E stream on Twitch, streamed every Saturday at 1 PM PST on the Nat19Official channel. Come join us if you'd like to see it in action!)

This was a really good read. I have a question about Way of Rebellion and the feature "SSS" is you gain half rounding down of the points spent if you roll a 20, if you only spend 1 point do you gain 1 or 0 points back? (I think the answer is 0 but I want to make sure)

When I opened this book I had no idea what I was expecting then I read it and I had an ear to ear grin like a kid at Christmas. Love the new additions to sword saint and I'm 100% going build some as NPC's for my next few campaigns.

Scanned image
These products were created by scanning an original printed edition. Most older books are in scanned image format because original digital layout files never existed or were no longer available from the publisher.

For PDF download editions, each page has been run through Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to attempt to decipher the printed text. The result of this OCR process is placed invisibly behind the picture of each scanned page, to allow for text searching. However, any text in a given book set on a graphical background or in handwritten fonts would most likely not be picked up by the OCR software, and is therefore not searchable. Also, a few larger books may be resampled to fit into the system, and may not have this searchable text background.

For printed books, we have performed high-resolution scans of an original hardcopy of the book. We essentially digitally re-master the book. Unfortunately, the resulting quality of these books is not as high. It's the problem of making a copy of a copy. The text is fine for reading, but illustration work starts to run dark, pixellating and/or losing shades of grey. Moiré patterns may develop in photos. We mark clearly which print titles come from scanned image books so that you can make an informed purchase decision about the quality of what you will receive.

Original electronic format
These ebooks were created from the original electronic layout files, and therefore are fully text searchable. Also, their file size tends to be smaller than scanned image books. Most newer books are in the original electronic format. Both download and print editions of such books should be high quality.
