Prime Pickings Of The Toxic Vulture
by Eric F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 02/24/2015 09:29:12

I'm a fan of post apocalyptic worlds for PC's to visit and its quite easily one of all time favorite things to do is to drop adventurers into the deep end of the wastelands. The one element that many post apocalyptic landscapes have regardless of genre have from the zombie apocalypse to a Gamma World 'years of shadow' style adventures is corpses. An often overlooked and under utilized game element. Well no more! Dave Woodrum that one man factory of old school goodness from Fish Wife Games has produced two sets of Prime Pickings Of The Toxic Vulture set one. This is a sick and twisted idea, basically these are a series of two corpse filled booklets with all kinds of background on the corpses. Sweet mother why didn't I think of this??! With the popularity of the Walking Dead television series this is a really a nice little tool kit for running a post apocalyptic urban, wasteland, or deep wasteland adventure encounter with your favorite location filled with these corpses. This set provides a whole palette of interesting corpses to use as adventure links, fodder, and all kinds of interesting variations for your post apocalyptic wastelands. This is a really well done set and Fish Wife has done a pretty damn fine job of putting together a package of post apocalyptic goodness with Prime Pickings Of The Toxic Vulture and one of the reasons why you'll continue to see Fish Wife Products at my gaming table.

Abandoned Parking Lot: Lot A
by Eric F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/22/2015 18:22:26

There are times in the wastelands where a DM wants to slow your party's roll whist adventuring through the wastelands. And that's exactly what I did the other night. During my Thundarr game I wanted the party to have a mix up with some vat grown goblins. This little gem provided me with exactly the right mix of elements I needed. A full map of the cars and trucks, a mix of different types of vehicles and the potential for greed and monster encounters. I was able to supply the monsters and the rest went done smoothly. Partially because of the diversity of this product. There seven pages of potential post apocalyptic flash point artifact rusty gold and relic conditions. Greed is always a nice motivator & Fishwife games knows how to bring a bit of mystery to the table. According to the product's introduction this is a part of the design of it. The parking lots of the post apocalypse is littered with an assortment of abandoned vehicles. All of these hunks of metal are waiting for the characters to exploit, loot, and possibly even drive off in. Though the Game Master and the players might have a few ideas of what sort of vehicles they would love to find, the parking lots of the urban wastes are random with their offerings. Some cars and trucks are worthy finds, others are semi-useless hunks of crap. Some of the interior contents of these vehicles offer the characters much needed supplies and treasure while some contents lack in anything desirable. Just like the parking lots of our current times, you are never likely to know what you'll find until you snoop about a bit.

This allows a DM to insert this into an adventure location in their wasteland campaign as a fully realized loot zone with lots of potential for mutant monster mayhem. This can be done easily, quickly, and with maximum damage potential to a party in that adventure location. The secret here in the nature of the product is how its designed.

Each edition of Abandoned Parking Lot will feature a number of random vehicles and their contents. Though the exact make/model of these vehicles is kept generic, such as “Midsize Sedan”, the author has provided a personal suggested variety of vehicle in the description, such as (Chrysler 200). While it is likely that the parking lot would be connected to the presence of a building or buildings, these structures are left out of the provided maps (one numbered, one unnumbered). This is to allow the GM to easily drop the parking lot into most any urban wasteland area that they intend to use for an adventuring apocalyptic crawl. The current edition of Abandoned Parking Lot offers over twenty some vehicles and the parking lot is intended to be located in a rougher neighborhood. There's quite a few drugs to be found in some of these vehicles, indicating that the nearby crime rate was a bit high before the fall of civilization. The potential to screw with a party of adventurers is quite high in a number of places and simply sit back and watch the situations arise. The design ethos here is concise and clever a hall mark of Dave Woodrum's writing and savoy when it comes to using his product for max. adventuring and story potential in the wastes. Each car is like a mini story waiting to unfold and with mutations such as artifact empathy and telepastic relic reading and the like, the potential here to drop in exposition about the background and history of your Apocalypse is limited merely by your imagination. This product is completely system neutral and can be applied across the board for games from modern horror to complete post apocalyptic mayhem ala Mutant Future or Mutant Epoch. But there's another side of this product, with a bit of imagination this one little parking lot could be used for a game like Chill, Call of Cthlhu or may other modern games where an abandon parking lot full of cars can mean the difference between life and death. Lord knows it saved my life the other night and gave the players a nice excuse to have their adventurers face down giant freaking mutant insects called Chatterers. No relation to the Hellraiser character. All in all I think this one is worth your time and patience, with a bit of imagination this product can be used over and over again for years and years to come!

100 Folks Of The Old West, Set 2
by Eric F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/12/2015 12:58:35

Westerns have always been some of the been the basis for science fiction, there have been a very familial little pairing with these genres. Which brings us to 100 Folks of The Old West, another Fish Wife Games product which pretty much can be adapted and plugged into the backdrop of your favorite 'New Frontier' sci fi gaming system. You can use this as anything from random encounter chart to colony construction kit for your 'New Frontier' space colony with little to no effort at all. This is a really easy product to adapt as you see fit but wait there's plenty more that can be done. With a quick twist of genre this product can be used to populate your post apocalyptic American South West alternative Earth. There's plenty that this can be used for in the deep wastelands of the apocalypse. Since these products are system neutral and yes there's a line of them, are easily used anyplace where the 'Old West' is the setting. The layout here is sold and easily plugged and played in any system. Since my choice of rpg systems is old school & retroclone than this makes things much easier to deal with during adventure construction, location assignment, loot planting, and system implantation. On the whole this is one the best incarnations of generic Old West system piece products that has come out in the last couple of months, there are a few reasons why I say this. Its cheap, its quickly implemented, the product is system neutral, its no frills and concise, and its stand alone. These are all solid pluses for me to buy this product.

Exactly what it says on the cover. This product is a list of 100 names followed by a short description of each. The names are numbered 1-100 so you could come up with a random group very easily. The list contains a pretty varied group of individuals, not just gunfighters and outlaws, but also bartenders, land owners, and guitar players. This will defiantly be used in my games.

100 Local Places Of Business
by Eric F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 01/07/2015 22:56:59

This is a great little two page product that can be used as set dressing for your adventure locations. This little two page product presents everything that DM needs. Fish Wife Games cranks out a great list of local businesses that can be used as adventure location set dressings or perhaps as random encounter locations. This list sets up a fantastic number of businesses with everything a DM needs to populated your ruins or modern city locations right from the ground up.There's plenty of businesses to explore and for a party of adventurers to stumble upon. The list can be also used to randomly create a long list of quick encounter locations to populate the ruins of some random wasteland locations in the post apocalyptic landscape with little to no fuss. Each entry is given their own separate set up, with a quick little note and that's it. Background, monsters, etc is all up to the DM and this creates a vast amount of room for the DM to add in the flavor that they want.Basically this is great list for those who want to add a bit more to the simple random encounters that crop up in the middle of your post apocalyptic or modern games. By using this product you can increase the number of encounters and places that they happen with a logical amount of a back story that happens to be system neutral. All in all this is a solid addition to the Fish Wife games tool box of products. Get this product and couple it with another of the post apocalyptic fish wife products and get into the wastelands in style.

100 Customer Types for Spaceport Bars
by Eric F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 12/19/2014 18:27:19

100 Customer Types for Spaceport Bars sets out to do one thing and ends up being three products in one. This is another download from Fish Wife Games and again the quality is spot on here. Dave Woodrum provides a varied and interesting list of patrons for that wretch hive of scum and villainy in your local space port or Outer Rim space station. This list can also be used as a quick D100 encounter table as well to really spice games up. The other use for this little list is as a jump point for a group of NPC's right in the middle of an adventure. A few tosses of the dice and wham you've got everything you need to keep your PC's busy for a game dealing with some scum in the center of a bar. This list is short, sweet, concise, and doesn't spend a ton of time dealing out details. Here the descriptions are brief and varied. The DM can add this list to his or her favorite space opera or science fictional game there's no rule hang ups to get in the way of really going to town with this list. Everything here is geared to get the PC's into interaction with minimum fuss. This is going to happen for under a dollar and this list can be dropped into a game mid stream of an adventure and no one is going to notice at all. The players can deal with the NPC's as they see fit and the same list will give a dozen results per toss to really allow the DM a rapid fire round robin of encounters. This allows an adventure to seem almost like an old school detective novel where the encounters give the skeleton of an urban interstellar Noir back drop adventure. As quick as you please this same formula can whip the PC's into the middle of a planetary tavern with steamy alien political intrigue is the order of the day. The key here is the DM['s imagination and his or her willingness to commit the time and imagination to the backgrounds of those listed here. A clever and well done product which a DM can get a hell of a lot of utility out of for the price of less then a hamburger. High recommended.

Space Stops: Spungo's Bar
by Eric F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 12/15/2014 10:30:28

Spungo's Bar is just the place to pick up a contract or let your adventurers unwind in their favorite space opera. Fish Wife games has done an excellent job of creating the sort of vile space bar, grill , and establishment that can deal out all kinds of adventure links, NPC contacts, and encounters to get your PC's into the seedy and dangerous underside of the galactic culture and society. This is a place that passes among the loathsome and jetsam of the universe. Dave Woodrum does an excellent job of creating the sort of establishment that you'll need a shower after visiting and that's a good thing. Spungo's is just the type of place that might appear in a cheesy late night sci fi cult movie from the 70's thru 90's on VHS or cable. That being said this is a place with plenty of room for DYI game mastering and tinkering in the background. At three dollars this is really an establishment that's a steal. Nicely written and easily thrown into any number of old school science fiction games. Going into Spungo's is going to have many PC's wanting to rethink their lives after one or two patron's use some old school mind tricks on them. That being said the product is well rounded and balanced for encounters. There's room here for expansion or for clear cutting DM customization. But there's enough meat on the bones of the product to flesh out NPC's, background of the location and more adventure location ideas as you see fit. Spungo's Bar is going to making appearances in my games coming up.

Right so here we are with another random encounters table from the twisted mind of Dave Woodrum. This one is right up the alley of those willing to take their adventurers into that wretched hive of scum and villainy. This is a list perfectly suited to that purpose. This simple and easy little encounter chart has all of the space scum, pirates, whores, smugglers, and jerks for your PC's to tangle with. This list can be used as an NPC encounter table, a back alley combat encounter table, and a fully blown adventure encounter generator for mid level to higher level NPC sessions during adventures. All this for a dollar or less if this generator is on sale. Grab this one.

100 Space Prisoners: Cell Block 2
by Eric F. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 11/11/2014 09:55:36

I've been using Fish Wife Games suppliments for years and 100 Space Prisoners: Cell Block 2 is another of those niche products that they specialize in. This is a nice little 2 page pdf that has all kinds of space scum to fill up your space port cells and detention blocks. This is really a small scale tool kit for the Dm to fill in a game's gaps of what actually goes in detention block zeta and alpha, etc. Often for the price of a 'dollar menu' item, you get a nice little list that can fill out with the toss of some dice a whole plethora of incredible NPC's with some really nasty backgrounds for a whole mini campaign of bounty hunting and take downs. These vile space villains could also fill in niches for alien crime lords and mid level space scum to deal PC's a nasty hand of cards. Some of these back alley criminals could act as bridge gaps for DM's to exploit their past crimes for all kinds of lead in adventures. There's lots of potential with these types of lists from Fish Wife.

by Stacy S. [Verified Purchaser] Date Added: 03/19/2014 15:51:33

Be warned: this maze ain't for sissies. It's tough, gritty, and you aren't sure if you're going to make it out alive. But that's the challenge of it. I liked how this is a one-player adventure that is easy to understand but far from simplistic. Fishwife Games continues to impress me with quality products.

100 Places Of Fantasy Geography
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 03/17/2014 08:28:33

It's always a bit tricky to find names for everything when you are mapping out a new corner of your campaign world. In real life, place names grow and develop from all manner of things - visible features, names of local landowners, corruptions of older languages - yet when you are mapping you have to just pull them out of a hat.

So here's a helper - a list of an hundred names for places. You may like them, you may even be amused by working out why the name you have rolled (or picked) is appropriate for the place you have assigned it to...

The good thing is most of them sound reasonably plausible. The downside is that they are listed alphabetically, rather than by the type of place... so if you know you are looking for a name for a stream, you cannot check 'stream names' but have to search for the ones that are... or of course, take any name and decide that it is a stream name rather than the island or jungle name that it's given as.

The best use is that it's a good way to get your own creative juices flowing. Just read it and you'll start coming up with your own variations... get your map out and get busy!

Instant Teams For That Violent Dystopian Age Pro-Sports League
by Sean H. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 01/14/2014 21:43:50

Instant Teams For That Violent Dystopian Age Pro-Sports League, that title is almost longer than the product! It is a list of fifty (American) cities and fifty team names and a table for generating team colors. I would have liked the city list to have been weighted but population so you were more likely to see teams from New York or LA than Waco or Detroit. But other than that complaint, it does what it sets out to do.

Wasteland Gangs: The Termites
by Megan R. [Featured Reviewer] Date Added: 01/06/2014 06:09:54

This is a very nice collection of well-developed NPCs, organised as a low-powered but coherent urban/biker gang that might be encountered in a post-apocalyptic township somewhere. (I think my Deadlands: Hell on Earth character would fit in well with them if he ever stops roaming around with his current party...)

There is a whole range of different types here. Many of them could make interesting encounters - or useful contacts - on their own. As a gang, they really shine giving a real impression of a functioning group of people doing their best to survive whatever apocalypse has struck your world... and who will continue to do so irrespective of whether or not the party is around or not - something you always want to achieve in creating a believeable alternater reality.

The details for each member of the gang are copious - appearance, nature, capabilities, what they have with them and what they are likely to be doing. All you need to do is add in any apposite game mechanics, but unless a brawl breaks out or you need them to attempt a task for which the outcome is not certain, you'll barely need any as you really know all you need to know about them from the write-up.
